- Job Title: Administration & Finance Assistant

LERWA-Land and Environmental Rights Watch Africa Ltd is an indigenous non-profit organization based in Uganda. We aim to empower communities, particularly women and youth, for sustainable environmental rights promotion and protection. By approaching land and environmental rights issues as human rights issues, we focus on empowering vulnerable populations to become agents of change in their communities. Our work includes capacity building, advocacy, research, and community mobilization, with a major focus on food and nutrition security, climate and environmental justice, economic development, skills and literacy development, and humanitarian assistance.
Job Summary:
The Administration & Finance Assistant will support the administrative and financial operations of LERWA. This role involves managing office tasks, maintaining financial records, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies. Additionally, the Assistant will support in managing the finances of the Aturukuku LERWA Farmers’ Cooperative Society.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administrative Support:
- Manage office supplies and inventory.
- Handle correspondence, phone calls, and emails.
- Organize and schedule meetings and appointments.
- Maintain office filing systems and databases.
- Financial Management:
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial reports.
- Process invoices, receipts, and payments.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
- Assist with audits and financial reviews.
- Support in managing the finances of the Aturukuku LERWA Farmers’ Cooperative Society.
- Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- Prepare and submit financial reports to the Country Director.
- Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and reports.
- Other Duties:
- Support the organization’s events and activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Country Director.
Qualifications:
- Minimum education: Diploma in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in administrative and financial roles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.

The Advocacy Officer will lead LERWA’s advocacy efforts to promote land and environmental rights. This role involves developing and implementing advocacy strategies, engaging with stakeholders, and raising awareness on key issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advocacy Strategy Development:
- Develop and implement advocacy strategies aligned with LERWA’s mission.
- Identify key advocacy issues and target audiences.
- Monitor and analyze policy developments related to land and environmental rights.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, NGOs, and community groups.
- Represent LERWA in meetings, forums, and networks.
- Coordinate with the National Coalition for Human Rights Defenders and other relevant platforms.
- Awareness and Campaigns:
- Plan and execute awareness campaigns and events.
- Develop advocacy materials such as reports, briefs, and presentations.
- Conduct training and capacity-building sessions for community members.
- Research and Reporting:
- Conduct research on land and environmental rights issues.
- Prepare and submit shadow reports to regional and international human rights mechanisms.
- Document and report on advocacy activities and outcomes.
- Other Duties:
- Support the organization’s projects and initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Country Director.
Qualifications:
- Minimum education: Diploma in Law, Human Rights, Environmental Studies, or related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in advocacy or related roles.
- Strong understanding of land and environmental rights issues.
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and build networks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and advocacy tools.
