A New Dawn for Rural Smallholders

In a groundbreaking move, the Aturukuku LERWA Farmers’ Cooperative Society Ltd has joined forces with MobiPay AgroSys and the Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE) to usher in a new era of digital farming in Uganda. On 12th June 2024 at the office premised based in Aturukuku Rubongi subcounty, members of the Cooperative Society were sensitized about Agrobase and the innovative Community Pass powered by Mastercard before getting credentialed/registered by MobiPay. This partnership is set to revolutionize the way rural smallholders manage their farming operations and services, leveraging the power of technology to bring about a sustainable transformation in agriculture. It also aims at making the rural smallholder farmers visible to a number of service providers including financial institutions, insurance companies, education and medical institutions.

At the heart of this digital transformation is Agrobase, a cutting-edge platform designed to meet the unique needs of rural farmers. Agrobase offers a suite of tools that enable farmers to:

The introduction of Agrobase is poised to have a profound impact on the livelihoods of rural smallholders. By digitalizing their operations, farmers can expect to see:

  • Increased competitiveness in both local and global markets.
  • Enhanced profitability through better access to information and markets.
  • Improved sustainability of farming practices, ensuring long-term viability.
  • Greater desirability of farming as a profession, attracting the younger generation to agriculture.

This partnership aligns with the cooperative’s commitment to sustainable farming practices and environmental stewardship. By integrating Agrobase into their operations, farmers can adopt more eco-friendly practices, such as:

  • Agroforestry to maintain soil health and biodiversity.
  • Waste management to reduce environmental impact.
  • Water conservation techniques to ensure the efficient use of resources.

The collaboration between Aturukuku LERWA Farmers’ Cooperative Society Ltd, MobiPay AgroSys, and UNFFE marks a significant milestone in the journey towards a more prosperous and sustainable agricultural sector in Uganda.
