Aturukuku LERWA Farmers’ Cooperative Society Ltd started as a farmers’ group under the Forest Gardening for Environmental
Justice project funded by Global Greengrants Fund implemented by LERWA-Land and
Environmental Rights Watch Africa Ltd in 2023 in AturukukuVillage, Rubongi Sub- County.
During the project, farmers in one farmer group started a Village Savings and
Loans Association (VSLA) of twenty-two (22) members with the aim of saving
their sales from their vegetable permagardens. On May 1st 2023, the farmer
group expanded its membership to fifty (50) and formed a co-operative society
known as ATURUKUKU LERWA FARMERS’ COOPERATIVE SOCIETY LTD and on 5th of July 2023 it was officially registered by the
Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives under the provision of Section 6(1)
of the Co-operative Societies Act, Cap 112 with a probationary certificate of Reg. No P.23176/RCS. Now the co-operative has over 120 members in the District of Tororo. Aturukuku LERWA Farmers’ Cooperative Society Ltd has experience in working with
communities for more than three (3) years.
